OUTLOOK EXPRESS TRICKS
INTRODUCTION
Have you ever wanted to “block sender” and delete an E-mail message
without opening it? Have you received an E-mail and wanted to know
how to find the sender’s E-mail address? These are two subjects covered
in this lesson.
BLOCK AND DELETE AN E-MAIL WITHOUT OPENING IT
Here it will be necessary to change the way Outlook Express looks and
operates. With OE open to the Inbox, click View + Layout. Under
“Preview Pane”, uncheck the “Show preview pane” box. Click OK.
Now your Inbox will list all E-mails that you have received and not deleted.
Here the selected E-mail can be blocked or deleted without being opened.
Block by clicking Message + Block Sender… Delete by pressing the
Del key. (WARNING: Do NOT hold the Del key, merely tap it.)
To view an E-mail, you must double-click anywhere on the Subject line.
To view attachments, you must double-click the icon shown in the Attach:
field.
COPY/PASTE A RECEIVED E-MAIL ADDRESS
With OE open to the Inbox, click anywhere on the Subject line to select.
Click File + Properties. The first window shows the sender’s E-mail
address but to copy it, click Details. Then you can highlight and
copy (Ctrl + C) the address and paste (Ctrl + V) in your Address Book or
wherever.
CONCLUSION
With the increase in received SPAM messages, it is probably safer to
block them and delete them without opening. The fix described above
takes a while to get used to, but it has become my preferred configuration.
The described method to view and copy/paste a sender’s E-mail address is
probably better than the “Automatically put people I reply to in my address
book” option that can be set up.
