ELEMENTS– SWITCH HEADS
INTRODUCTION
Photos
can often be enhanced if heads are switched.This
can be to replace “Joe’s unhappy face” with “Joe’s smiling face” or to
put Joe’s face into a comic situation, etc.
PROCEDURE
FOR ACQUIRING IMAGES
View

select Swimmer > if your browser is maximized,
click the Restore button > click the blue Title bar and drag to view both
the Swimmer and part of the Desktop > click the picture and drag it onto
the Desktop.Repeat this procedure
for Boy.Minimize
the browser.
Open
Photoshop Elements (PE) > close the Welcome window > make sure the Layers
palette is visible > if PE is maximized, click the Restore button > click
the blue Title bar and drag to the side leaving part of the working area
visible and the two pictures on the Desktop.Drag
Swimmer and Boy onto PE > maximize PE.
SELECT
THE HEAD OF BOY AND MOVE ONTO SWIMMER
Select
the Zoom tool and draw a rectangle around the head of Boy > select the
Polygonal Lasso Tool and click your way around the head including around
the chin > select the Move Tool and drag the selected head onto the Swimmer
> click the X (close) the Boy picture – do not save.
CREATE
DUPLICATE COPY OF SWIMMER
Click
the Background title (select the Swimmer) > click More (upper right on
Layers Palette) + Duplicate Copy > type name Swimmer > click OK > close
the eyes of Background and Layer 1.
ERASE
THE HEAD ON SWIMMER
Select
the Magnetic Lasso Tool > click anywhere outside the black line that defines
the Swimmer head > rapidly drag around the head > if necessary, double-click
to complete the selection > select the Zoom Tool and draw rectangle around
about ½ of the head > select the Selection Brush Tool > set brush
size at 25 > hold the Alt key and click (erase) dotted ants that are outside
the head > select the Eraser Tool > set Size to 100 > click around to erase
the head > if background is colored, select the Magic Eraser tool and click
in the colored area (background is erased) > hold the Ctrl key and tap
the D key to deselect the marching ants.Select
the Eyedropper Tool > click one of the black lines > select the Pencil
Tool > set size at 3 > carefully complete a black horizontal line between
water and sky > select the Eyedropper Tool > click the water > select the
Paint Bucket Tool > click to replace missing water > repeat with white
and fill in missing sky.
FINALIZE,
RESIZE AND POSITION THE BOY’S HEAD (LAYER 1)
Open
the eye on Layer 1 (the head) > click the title Layer 1 (select this layer)
> click the Move Tool and position, rotate, resize to fit (hold the Shift
key when resizing to maintain aspect ratio).Use
the Polynomial Lasso Tool to create a neck between Boy and Swimmer.Transfer
the Boy skin color to the Swimmer using the Pencil Tool and to hand and
legs with the Bucket Tool.

to achieve the desired results.
