PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS AND WORD
SEND MAP OF YOUR HOME ADDRESS
INTRODUCTION
Using the Internet and Google Maps, you can get a map of your home
location. Using Photoshop Elements and Word, you can send the map
and instructions to anyone using Email or “snail mail”.
GET MAP
From your browser, enter google.com in the Address field and press
the Enter key. Select Maps > enter your Zip Code > press Enter >
click on the map > press the + key a couple of times until you can read
your street name > click and drag the map to center on your home location
> press the Prt Scr key (copies the map into computer memory) > minimize
your browser.
CROP AND CUSTOMIZE THE MAP
Open Photoshop Elements > close the Welcome screen > click the New
icon > accept defaults (width 1280 pixels, height 1024 pixels, resolution
72) > press OK. Press Ctrl + V (paste map onto the work area).
Select the Crop Tool > set Width=7, Height=5 > draw a rectangle around
your home location including a few streets that lead to your home > press
the Enter key > hold Ctrl and tap the 0 key (the number 0). Select
the Selection Brush Tool > set brush size=30 > click your home location
(leaves a selection circle) > click Select + Modify + Border > set border
size = 5 > click OK. Click the Foreground Color patch > select red
> select the Pencil Tool > set size about 20 > drag the pencil around the
border > click Ctrl + D to deselect the selection lines.
SAVE THE CUSTOM MAP
Click File + Save As > set Format: JPEG > File name: Map > Save in:
Desktop > click Save.
USE WORD TO WRITE INSTRUCTIONS
Open Word > type introductory comments > click Insert + Picture + From
File > navigate to the Desktop > click Map.jpg > click Insert > press Enter
and finish your letter instructions > save the letter with a name and location
for later Email attachment.
CONCLUSIONS
This same procedure can be used to describe a computer procedure (with
pictures of your screen) or most anything that is better described with
computer or Internet pictures.
