PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS - MAKE A CUSTOM BRUSH
INTRODUCTION
It is possible to make a brush that will save time in rendering certain
things. A good example is whiskers.
DOWNLOAD AN EXAMPLE BRUSH AND MODEL
Open your browser and navigate to this lesson. Click HERE
to view a brush shape (whiskers) > restore your browser and move to reveal
part of the Desktop > drag the file onto the Desktop > click Yes.
Click HERE to download a model and repeat
the above procedure for copying the file onto the Desktop.
CREATE A BRUSH
Open Photoshop Elements > close the Welcome screen > restore and move
to reveal the Desktop > drag the brush shape onto the edit area > maximize
Photoshop Elements > click Edit + Define Brush.. > type Name: Whiskers
> click OK. If you wish to design your own brush, use a dark color
and the pencil tool to make your creation on a white background.
WORK ON THE MODEL
Close the brush shape file > restore Photoshop Elements > drag the
model file onto the edit area > maximize Photoshop Elements > Hold the
Ctrl key and click the 0 key (the number zero) to maximize the model >
select the Brush Tool > in the Options Bar, click the Show Selection Brush
Presets (down arrow) > scroll to bottom and select the Whiskers brush
> set Foreground color black > change brush size to 30 > put hair
on the model’s chest (click about 5 times to get dark hair > move brush
and repeat) > give the model a beard.
CONCLUSIONS
Identify a project that needs a particular kind of brush and use the
technique given here to make your brush. There are probably all kinds
of useful brushes that you can make. Examples might be stars, moon
craters, long hair, knitting pattern, and etc.
