PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – INSIDE PICTURE FRAME
INTRODUCTION
In this lesson we’ll use the marquee tools and border to create an
inside picture frame. We will learn some keyboard shortcuts along
the way.
DOWNLOAD AN EXAMPLE PICTURE
Open your browser and navigate to this lesson. Click HERE
to view picture 270a > restore your browser and move to reveal part
of the Desktop > drag the picture onto the Desktop > click Yes > repeat
HERE for 270b. Open Photoshop Elements
> close the Welcome screen > maximize Photoshop Elements > hold the Ctrl
key and click the O key (Open) > navigate to the Desktop > select 270a.jpg
+ Open.
MAKE AN ELLIPTICAL FRAME
Hold the Ctrl key and tap the #0 key (enlarges the picture) > select
the Elliptical Marquee Tool > click and drag from near the upper left corner
to the lower right corner of the picture (makes a large ellipse around
the picture) > use Arrow keys to tweek position > click Select + Modify
+ Border > make border size = 10 > click OK.
COLOR THE FRAME
Select the Eyedropper tool > click one of the colors (becomes the foreground
color) > select the Pencil Tool > make size 75 or more > drag pencil around
the elliptical border (fills border with selected color) > hold Ctrl key
and tap the D key (removes selection lines > press the Tab key (removes
tools and palettes - Tab again to restore).
REPEAT FOR A RECTANGULAR FRAME
Repeat the above procedures except use the Rectangular Marquee Tool
to make a rectangular frame. Close this picture without saving and
repeat the rectangular frame for 270b.jpg. Use the bright orange
color > click the Step Backward tool a few times and use light blue color
etc. to find the best colored border for 270b.jpg.
CONCLUSIONS
Some pictures can be improved by inside framing. Usually either
elliptical or rectangular shape is best but not both. Step backward
and try different colors to achieve the most pleasing results. Colors
used should come from somewhere in the picture itself.
