PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – SHARPEN NEAR AND FAR OBJECTS

INTRODUCTION
With camera on tripod, take a picture with focus on a near object.  Then take the same picture with focus on a distant object.  This lesson will demonstrate how to make both near and distant objects in focus on one picture.

PREPARE FOR FINAL STEP
On the Layers Palette, select 273b + More (located upper right corner of Layers Palette) > select Duplicate Layer > double-click the title Background and type 273a > press Enter.  Rename Layer 1 to 273b > rename Layer 1 Copy to 273b Copy.  Turn off the top visibility eye > click the title 273b to make it the active layer.

ERASE THE OUT-OF-FOCUS FLOWERS
Select the Eraser Tool > set Opacity: 50%, Size: 100, Mode: Brush > carefully erase the out-of-focus flowers by clicking on them several times.

PREVIEW BEFORE AND AFTER
Turn off the visibility eye on layer 273b > click the visibility eye of 273b Copy on and off to observe the original pictures > turn the eye off on 273b Copy and open the eyes on 273b and 273a to view the final results.

CONCLUSIONS
This procedure works really well if you have a beautiful scene in the background and want to focus on an object in the foreground.
