IRFANVIEW – CAPTURE ANYTHING
INTRODUCTION
Anything that you can see on your computer monitor can be captured,
viewed, saved and printed by Irfanview.
Here we will capture a picture, a map and a recipe. The Irfanview
shortcut should be in the Quick Launch toolbar for this lesson. Create
a desktop folder named 280.
PICTURE
Open your browser and go to http://google.com
> click Images > type elephant > click Search Images. Pick the first
elephant > click See full-size image > tap the Print Screen key (Prt Scr)
> open Irfanview > hold the Ctrl key and tap the V key (paste) > draw a
rectangle around the picture (place mouse pointer in upper left corner
> hold the left mouse button and drag to the lower right corner > release
the mouse) > hold the Ctrl key and tap the Y key (Crop Selection) > tap
the S key (Save as) > find the 280 folder on the desktop (Save in:) > name
it Elephant (File name:) > save as .jpg (Save as:) > click Save.
MAP
Click the browser on the Task Bar > click the Back Arrow several times
to return to Google > select Maps (you are immediately taken to Elephant
Pennsylvania) > click “-“ 4 times > close the caption > press the Prt Scr
key > open Irfanview > press Ctrl _ V > draw a rectangle around part of
the map > type Ctrl + Y > click the S key > type Map (File name:) > click
Save.
RECIPE
Click the browser on the Task Bar > click the Back Arrow to return
to Google > click Web > type turtle soup recipe > click I’m Feeling Lucky
> press the Prt Scr key > open Irfanview > type Ctrl _ V (paste) > draw
a rectangle around just the ingredients > type Ctrl + Y (crop selection)
> type S > type Recipe (File name:) > click Save.
REVIEW THE RESULTS
Return to the Desktop and double-click the 280 folder > double-click
Elephant (should open with Irfanview. If not, right-click Elephant.jpg
and select Open with > click Choose Program > select Irfanview > click
Always use selected program to open this type of file > click OK) > press
Esc to close Irfanview > open Map and Recipe in a similar manner.
CONCLUSION
Anything you see on your monitor can be captured by Irfanview.
This simple, time saving, procedure can be used a time or two every
day. The captured files can be printed, E-mailed or just saved for
later use.
