PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 6 - ORGANIZE

INTRODUCTION
PE6 creates a database that organizes your pictures by any category that you name.  The same picture can be found in many categories.  Your pictures can remain in their present folders.  Some categories are date, people, things, place, events, etc.  Sub-categories can include family, friends, birds, bugs, Alaska Trip, Sunsets, seascapes, etc…

OPEN THE ORGANIZER
Open PE6 and select ORGANIZE from the Welcome screen.

GET PHOTOS
Assuming you have pictures in a folder, click File + Get Photos and Videos + From Files and Folders > navigate to the first folder > double-click the folder > click the View icon and select Thumbnails > select all photos that you wish to “Get” from this folder (hold Ctrl and click the ones you want or Ctrl + A for All) > select Get Photos (selected photos are displayed).

KEY WORD TAGS
Select a picture by clicking on it > look for one or more Keyword Tags (on the right).  If none match the picture, right-click the category or sub-category and type a Keyword Tag that fits.  If more than one picture matches the “Tag”, hold Ctrl and click on each picture that fits.  Then drag the Tag onto one of the selected pictures (or drag a picture onto the tag) and all will be tagged.  Repeat for all displayed pictures before getting more photos from another folder.

SELECT PICTURES BY TAG NAME
Click the blank square left of the tag name.  All pictures with that tag will be displayed.

SELECT PICTURES BY DATE
Click Window + Timeline (a series of bars are displayed on a date scale.  The higher the bar, the more pictures are indexed on that date).  Move the pointer to the date slider (pointer becomes a hand) and drag the slider (month is displayed and one of the pictures taken then is outlined in green).  The date taken (or modified) is displayed below the pictures.

DATE VIEW
Click Display (upper right) + Date View.  You will have the choice of Year, Month or Day.  Select Year and click any day that is highlighted (picture is displayed on right noting the number of pictures for that day.  Picture properties is also given on the right).  Click right arrow to scroll through the pictures).  Repeat for Month and Day.

CONCLUSION
This is a short tour of the Organize features.  The best way to learn is to use these procedures on your own pictures.  If done right, you can find any picture you want.
