PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 6 – GUIDED EDIT

INTRODUCTION
PE6’s Guided Edit presents the most used editing features in one menu.  Often these are all that are needed to make an ordinary picture sharp and lustrous.

OPEN GUIDED EDIT
Open PE6 and select EDIT from the Welcome screen.  Click Guided.

SHARPEN
Select Sharpen (under Basic Photo Edits) > click After Only (at bottom - to get Before and After – Horizontal) > hold the Ctrl and Alt keys and tap the number “0” (enlarge) > tap the H key (Hand tool) > move the picture to reveal an edge or part of the picture that needs to be sharpened > move the slider to achieve the best sharpness level (notice Before & After – stay below 100 and stop before grains become visible) > click Done.

LIGHTING AND EXPOSURE
LIGHTEN OR DARKEN – Hold the Ctrl key and tap the number “0” (reveal the whole picture) > select Lighten or Darken > move the 3 sliders for best results > click Done.
BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST – select Brightness or Contrast > move the 2 sliders for best results > click Done.

COLOR CORRECTION
ENHANCE COLORS – Select Enhance Colors > normally don’t change Tint > move Saturation and Lightness sliders for best results > click Done.

GUIDED ACTIVITIES
TO FIX SMALL FLAWS.. – click the Spot Healing Brush – adjust brush size (slider) > click spots on the “After” display (use Undo and Redo if necessary).
TO FIX LARGE FLAWS.. – click the Healing Brush – adjust brush size (slider) > hold the Alt key and click a good area on the image > click and drag the brush on the bad area (this is similar to the clone tool but sometimes gives poor results) > click Done.
GUIDE FOR EDITING A PHOTO – The only option given here is Crop.  When you look in the Crop Size Box, 11X14 is missing.  Chose a crop size and drag a rectangle on the “After” picture > move and resize for best results > click Next > click Cancel – (Don’t ask me why).

CONCLUSION
This is an easy way to convert a picture into something more presentable.  It is possible to enter the Edit function to make further changes (improvements?) to your photos.  The Undo and Redo buttons will cycle through the various stages of your new creation.
