PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – ADJUSTMENT LAYERS3
INTRODUCTION
Adjustment layers come with a mask that allows control of the area
being adjusted. Several adjustments can be made to various areas
of a picture. Here the Hue/Saturation dialog box will be explored
in detail.
OPEN A PICTURE
Open Photoshop Elements in the Full Edit mode. Click File + Open
(or hold the Ctrl key and tap the letter O key) > select a picture of a
flower > click Open (becomes Background on the Layers palette).
SELECT THE HUE/SATURATION ADJUSTMENT LAYER
Select the Adjustment Layer icon (half black – half white circle near
top of the Layers palette +
Hugh/Saturation.
SELECT COLOR FROM EDIT
For Edit: select Yellows > move the Hue slider back and forth (all
yellow parts of the subject are affected).
SELECT COLOR WITH EYEDROPPER
Hover the mouse pointer over the picture (the mouse pointer becomes
a color picker) click the part that is to be tested > move the Hue slider
back and forth and areas with the selected color are affected.
SELECT COLOR WITH THE ADJUSTMENT SLIDER
The Adjustment slider is located between the rainbow bars below.
Move the center bar and a new adjustment color is selected > move the Hue
slider back and forth and areas with the selected color are affected.
CHANGE THE ADJUSTMENT SLIDER SHAPE
The adjustment slider center bar position determines the adjustment
color. It’s size determines the range of colors that will be affected.
The size of the two dark bars affect the color fall-off. Change the
size of these bars and move the Hue slider to test their effect on which
colors of the picture are affected.
CONCLUSION
This has demonstrated the use of the Hue/Saturation dialog box and
how it can be used to change the hue (and saturation) of selected colors
in a picture.
