PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – WHITEN TEETH
INTRODUCTION
Here we’ll use the adjustment layer procedure for whitening teeth.
OPEN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS
Open Photoshop Elements in the Full Edit mode.
OPEN A PICTURE
Hold the Ctrl key and tap the letter O key (open) > select a picture
of person or animal that has teeth > click Open.
SELECT THE TEETH
Zoom in on the teeth if necessary > select the Quick Selection Tool
> use the [ and ] keys to size the tool slightly smaller than the teeth
> click around until all teeth are selected.
REMOVE THE YELLOW
On the Layers Palette, click the Create adjustment layer icon (white/black
ball) > select Hue/Saturation > for Edit: select Yellows > move the Saturation
slider all the way to the left (removes the yellow) > click OK. Test
by turning visibility eye of adjustment layer on/off.
WHITEN TEETH
Double click the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer icon (left of 2 icons
on adjustment layer) > for Edit: select Master > move the Lightness slider
to the right to achieve the desired amount of whiteness > click OK.
Test by turning visibility eye of adjustment layer on/off.
MAKE ADDITIONAL CHANGES
To make changes to the slider settings, double click the Hue/Saturation
adjustment layer icon (left of 2 icons on adjustment layer) > make changes
> click OK.
To change the selection area on the teeth, click the layer mask (right of 2 icons on adjustment layer) > select the Brush Tool > to add to selected teeth, paint with white (Foreground color is white), to remove from selected teeth, paint with black (Foreground color is black). Use the [ and ] keys to size the brush.
Make small adjustments by slightly reducing the opacity of the adjustment layer.
CONCLUSION
Whiter teeth is one of many improvements that can be made to a portrait.
This adjustment layer procedure is an easy way to remove yellow and whiten
teeth.
