PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – 3D PICTURE ON BOTTLE
INTRODUCTION
Here we use the 3D tools covered in Neat Tricks 314. We will
construct a 3D bottle with a picture and date wrapped around.
OPEN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS AND CREATE A BLANK LAYER
Open Photoshop Elements in the Full Edit mode. Hold the Ctrl
key and tap the letter N key (New blank file) > set Width: 1200 pixels,
Height: 900 pixels, Resolution: 300, Color Mode: RGB Color, Background:
white > click OK > choose foreground color: wine > select the Paint Bucket
Tool > click anywhere on the layer (layer is wine colored).
DECORATE THE LAYER
Use Figure 1 as an example. Click View
+ Grid (to help position and align everything) > use the Marquee Tool to
draw stripes (click Add to Selection on the Options Bar) > use the Paint
Bucket Tool (click Contiguous) to make light colored stripes > use the
Text Tool and wine color to type the year (click the Move Tool to resize
and position the text) > open a picture, move the picture onto the blank
layer, resize the picture > right click the Background layer on the Layers
Palette and choose Flatten Image.
START 3D TRANSFORM
Select Filter + Render + 3D Transform > select Options > set Resolution:
and Anti- Aliasing: both High (produces smoother texture), uncheck Display
Background > click OK. Click the Cylinder Tool > click and drag a
cylinder (extend above the date stripe and below the picture).
CREATE A BOTTLE SHAPE
Press the + key (Add Anchor Point Tool) and click right side of cylinder
below the date stripe (adds anchor point) click to add another anchor point
at the shoulder of the bottle > tap A (Direct selection tool) and move
the upper new and top anchor points inward to form the neck of the bottle
> drag the shoulder inward or outward > may be necessary to use the Selection
Tool (V) to move the bottle in place around the date and picture > if necessary,
use the Convert Anchor Point Tool to click and drag the new anchor points
and use A to reshape.
3D POSITIONING
The hardest part of the 3D process is using the Trackball Tool (R key).
Position the mouse pointer (curved double arrow) at center below the bottle
and drag directly upward a few times to flip the bottle completely around
until it is slightly tipped > click OK.
FINAL STEP
Use the Elliptical Marquee tool to make an ellipse at the top (drag
from one side to the other, pulling down just enough to form the tilt effect
> use arrow keys to position > choose a darker wine color and fill the
ellipse by using the Bucket Tool. Use Figure
2 as an example.
CONCLUSION
This lesson assumes that you can follow without a lot of detail steps
and we wanted to get it all on one page. 3D is something that takes
lots of practice to get right. Keep trying and you’ll do OK.
