PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS – QUICK FIX
INTRODUCTION – The Quick Fix is an easy way to quickly and easily make pictures look better.
OPEN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS AND LOAD A PICTURE - Open Photoshop Elements in the Edit mode. Hold the Ctrl key and tap the letter O key (Open) > navigate to a pictures folder and click a picture > click Open.
GO TO QUICK EDIT AND VIEW BEFORE AND AFTER – Select Quick (switches to Quick Edit mode) > click View + Before and After (Horizontal). Always work on the After picture to make changes.
ZOOM & HAND TOOLS – Select the Zoom Tool (shows Set Zoom %, 1:1 or Actual Pixels, Fit Screen and Print Size). For all except Fit Screen, select the Hand Tool and click and drag to any area of the picture. The Set Zoom % slider can quickly zoom the image in or out between 1% and 3200%. The 1:1 or Actual Pixels zooms to about the maximum without displaying the individual pixels (100%). Fit Screen returns to the display that fits the picture to the working area of the Quick Edit mode (about 27%). Print Size again zooms to 100%. As always, you can drag a rectangle around the area to be included in the zoom. Most of the time, holding the Space bar allows the picture to be dragged into the desired position.
SELECTION TOOLS – Use the Quick Selection Tool to quickly select areas of similar color. Use the Selection Brush Tool to select any area that the tool contacts. Use the “[]” keys to change the brush size or click the mouse on the word Size: and drag to any size.
RED EYE REMOVAL TOOL – Normally use the default settings. Select the tool and click the red of each eye to replace the red with black. The Auto button usually doesn’t work at all.
GENERAL FIXES, LIGHTING, COLOR, SHARPEN – The fixes on the right can be applied by clicking Auto. The sliders allow you to vary the amount of the adjustment. It is best to try Auto and move sliders slightly to achieve what looks best.
CONCLUSION - Often the Quick Fix adjustments can be used to make an acceptable improvement to your pictures. For more detail on the affects of these adjustments, click the Help Contents icon (light bulb on right side of each adjustment bar).
